POTTERY CLASSES
Come join our creative clay community!
Classes of like minded creatives gather weekly from my sunny spacious studio to explore assorted ceramic hand building techniques. All levels are welcome as we discover elements of pinching, coiling, draping and attachment. Having shared my passion for 40+ years, I will shepherd you whatever your skillset, to a place of comfort and confidence with the medium. We will be working with a low-fire terracotta clay, fully functional and food safe as you create a collection of inspired treasures.
This end of summer period is for me, one of gratitude and restoration. Gratitude for the beauty and abundant color of our playground, the people with whom we’ve enjoyed hot sunny days on water or land stretching our limbs, and dinners al fresco accompanied by great music. A restorative sensory feast!
Filled with memory and inspiration, we return to our routines (and to the studio), ready to hunker down as the cooler weather approaches, perhaps thinking about what we might pursue creatively with holiday gift giving in mind.
With enthusiasm I invite you to join me in my Rhode Island studio at The Handkerchief Factory for a six week Adult (and Children’s) hand building workshop as we discover together what may be percolating within, accompanied by solid instruction and guidance to bring your musings to fruition.
You will learn (and review) various hand building techniques while creating a body of work from wet clay through the glazing and firing process. We will pinch, we will coil, we will attach and drape. You will find your footing as I shepherd you on this adventure with multiple options available in my well equipped studio. Having worked in clay throughout my life and taught at all skill levels, be assured that you will have the support you need whether new to clay or not.
Both a cone 04, (Low-fire) Terracotta clay reminiscent of the colors of the Southwest and a cone 6 (Midrange) White Stoneware will be our clay options. We will meet once a week for six weeks, four classes focusing on wet clay, the last two on glazing. By workshop’s end, you can expect a collection of pieces waiting to become your favorite food or plant vessels!
Classes begin the first week of October with 2 options for adults and 1 option for children. Class size is limited to 8, first come first served.
